US patent granted for technology designed to help duty free retailers and brands
Sydney, 1 Dec 2022: The technology developed for managing a purchasing wishlist used by SkyBuys Pty Ltd for its duty free and travel retail platform and app has been granted a US patent.
The technology – the Rain-Check.IT system – is protected by granted US Patent No 11,494,825, which covers the intellectual property relating specifically to online purchasing wishlists.
The patent was developed and co-authored by SkyBuys’ director Cameron Wall, and is designed to provide brands as well as retailer partners with the ability to utilise in-app wishlists to attribute and close the loop on the discovery of an online product, to the offline (in-store) purchase (“O2O”).
In addition to the US patent, the technology is also protected in Australia by granted Australian Innovation Patent 2022100064 , with a second Australian patent application pending.
SkyBuys CEO Alec Kemmery said it was recognition of the work of Cameron Wall and William Lin and the SkyBuys’ technology team, and positioned the business to partner with the world’s leading concessionaires and travel retail brands.
“This O2O innovation can be used to help retailers and brands within the duty free and travel retail industry. Our patented method for managing a purchasing wishlist, or ‘rainchecking’ items, brings a new level of information and data around travel, shopping and user behaviour. It’s exciting to be granted the US patent, and formal recognition of the new ideas we are bringing to retail in the global travel sector.”
